Wiffle Ball 2005:
10th Annual Northern Virginia Wiffle World Series
On May 21st, 2005, the Tenth Annual Northern Virginia WiffleBall World Series was held at Word of Grace Athletic Fields in Herndon, VA. Amazingly, just 2 days before he passed away, Brian willed his way through and was able to attend the event. It was a wonderful tribute to Brian by friends and family and allowed all of us to prepare ourselves for his passing.
The event was an amazing success as over $47,000 was raised to benefit the Brain Tumor Center at Duke. The special event began with inspirational words and the first pitch by Notre Dame All-American and former Washington Redskin Tom Carter. Players played on fields that were modeled after Camden Yards, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.
In addition to the wiffle® ball tournament, there were fun-filled events for the whole family including Kid’s World, where children and their parents enjoyed carnival games, face painting and a clown, along with a raffle, and Home Run Derby competition with prizes for both players and spectators. Entertainment included Todd Watts from Fairfax-based emmet swimming performing live. Most importantly, the event gave everyone an opportunity to show their love for Brian and to support his fight against brain cancer. Thank you all so much for your amazing support of Brian and your commitment to his important cause!
